Dear participant & student of visual skills,
Thank you again for joining the Clinical Exploration of BEAM by Overbound.
As part of the process you are being asked to periodically share your experience. You may do so on this page.
Also, here you may find instructions that may help you remember how to practice with the Collimator Tubes at home. Just choose the correct level of practice, read the instructions, then let your visual system figure out the rest.
May your eyesight be boundnless!
Irena Castle and the Overbound Team
PROGRESS TRACKING
We hope that you will see fantastic improvement leveraging the Collimator Tubes and the BEAM techniques. Documenting your experience is one of the most important objectives of this Clinical Exploration, as it will help us make adjustments and improvements as we expand this approach further. Please share yours through the button below.
BEAM PROTOCOL - PRACTICE INSTRUCTIONS
The below instructions should serve as a general reminder of how to practice with the Overbound Collimator Tubes. If the is a discrepancy between these instructions and what you have been asked to practice by your therapist, please defer to your therapist’s protocol.
TUBES SET UP: One tube, bare, without a central slit
INSTRUCTIONS: Bring the tube to one of your eyes. Close or cover the other eye and look through the tube at a blank wall or a target. Notice that there is a circular opening at the end of the tube. Can you see the circle and the wall? Then repeat with the other eye.
TUBES SET UP: Two tubes, bare, without central slits
INSTRUCTIONS: Take one tube into each hand, place the tubes in front of the eyes (don’t push the tubes into your face, but they may touch your skin). Point the tubes at the wall in front of you, but target different spots with each tube. Point the left tube slightly to the left, and the right tube to the right. Look with both eyes. Notice that you see two circles (two round openings) one at the end of the left tube and one at the end of the right tube. Close one eye, keep looking at the wall and notice the round opening at the end of the tube. Close the other eye and notice the round opening at the end of the tube. Now look with both eyes again and see two circles.
TUBES SET UP: Two tubes, bare, without central slits (or with one central slit if instructed by your therapist)
INSTRUCTIONS: Begin with level 2 instructions. Look into a point in the distance. Bring the tubes close to each other until the circles touch, then continue, until you see only one circle.
Make sure you are looking with both eyes, that you are not closing one of the eyes.
TUBES SET UP: Two tubes, bare. If slit was used in level 3, then keep the slit present.
INSTRUCTIONS: Begin with level 3 instructions. Once you see one circle (while looking through the two tubes and while looking with both eyes) slowly turn your head and look through the tubes at different places in the room - look at the floor, at the wall, at the ceiling. Look at things closer and further away. Always pause to allow focus to take place. See what you are looking at and be aware of one circle (or a circle and a line if using the central slit).
Reminder: Make sure you are looking with both eyes, that you are not closing one of the eyes.
TUBES SET UP: Two tubes equipped with central slits. Begin the practice with both slits in position #2 (vertical). Once the patient is successful, repeat the whole level 5 with the slits in position #4 (horizontal)
INSTRUCTIONS: Begin with level 3 instructions. Once you see one circle (while looking through the two tubes and while looking with both eyes) slowly turn your head Hold the tubes in a position where the number 2 faces up on both tubes (both lines in vertical position). Look at a blank wall or target. Close one eye and see a circle with a red line in the middle. Close the other eye and see a circle with a green line in the middle. Now look with both eyes and notice that there is one circle and one line, right in the middle, which is a mixture of red and green color.
TUBES SET UP: Two tubes equipped with central slits. Slits should be in the positions specified below - the required number should be facing up. The order of the diagonal positions A and B is interchangeable and therefore can be switched. the order of the plus positions C and D is also interchangeable. However, the diagonal positions should be practiced before the plus positions are practiced.
A. Left Eye #1 - Right Eye #3 (diagonal lines)
B. Left Eye #3 - Right Eye #1 (reverse diagonal lines)
C. Left Eye #2 - Right Eye #4 (the plus)
D. Left Eye #4 - Right Eye #2 (the reverse plus)
INSTRUCTIONS: Hold the tubes in a position where the left tube shows the number 1 facing up and the right tube shows the number 3 facing up. Close one eye and notice a circle and a line of one color. Close the other eye and notice a circle and a line of the other color. Look through the tubes at a distant blank wall or at a target and notice one circle and two lines (one red and one green) meeting right in the middle, creating an X. Wait for your eyes to see this. Move the X to the middle of the circle if it appears elsewhere.
TUBES SET UP: Two tubes equipped with central slits. Slits should be in any of the positions described in level 6, starting with the one that seems the easiest for the patient (1-3; 3-1; 2-4; or 4-2)
TARGET SET UP: Mark a target on a wall at least 3 feet away. Ideally the target should be the size of a thumb nail or smaller. The target does not have to be seen clearly, but need to be visible to you. Make the target larger if needed. Use a corner of a post-it or painters’ tape to mark the target (they are easy to remove)
INSTRUCTIONS: Place the tubes in a preferred position. Look through the two tubes (just as you did in previous levels) at the chosen target on the wall. Notice the target, notice one circle and a cross of two lines in the middle of the circle. Now align the cross (the center of the X) with the target point on the wall.
